Course Description

A workshop that addresses the words we use daily with young children to motivate them to listen, to follow directions, to behave differently, to learn, to regulate emotions, to express ideas, to learn language.

We will reflect on our current practice of using certain words in different situations with different purposes and reflect on what message and values are we giving unconsciously by using certain words.

We will look at changing our language to more powerful and impactful language that is with intention and serves to send a powerful message that children are Competent, Capable of complex thinking skills.

How to motivate with words children to use internal motivation to drive positive behaviour as opposed to words we use for external motivation will also be explored.


Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be able to:

  • To reflect on the actual words we say to children and the message we may be giving them unintentionally
  • To reflect on how intentional we need to be with the words we use with children on a day to day basis in our classroom
  • To explore words we use to respond to children’s words – to increase language skills, to increase problem solving skills, questions to encourage children to practice using their language skills
